5 kids activities in Durban for the October holidays

Ah, the spring break is here! It’s time to kick back a little, ignore your alarm clock and spend a little time in the sunshine. There’s no better place to be than Durban during this holiday season!

Summer hasn’t quite hit yet, so you’ll still be enjoying Durban in her prime, with warm sunshine and less of that famous sticky humidity. Here’s a list of our top five things to do in Durban during the spring school holidays:

Wild Adventures | Moses Mabhida Stadium

Paleontology Ahoy!

Moses Mabhida Stadium is the perfect spot for a day of family fun and it just got even better! Aside from the well-known Sky Car, People’s Park and Stadium Tours, the Stadium has added a little wild side to its holiday schedule! Opened in early September, Wild Adventures: The Lost World promises to keep the kids and you enthralled! As you enter Wild Adventures, you’ll be stepping into a dinosaur’s mouth. A prehistoric wonderland has been created, that will see budding paleontologists digging for fossils and learning about the world as it was 65 million years ago. Keep an eye out for the animatronic Baby T-Rex!

Skate Park | Durban

The Golden Smile

Durban’s famous for its beautiful beachfront and a recent renovation of the Golden Mile promenade has made it even more of a delight. Whether it’s a long walk to stretch your legs or a lazy lunch you’re looking for, the promenade’s the place to be! If you’re in an energetic mood, rent a pedal car for a few hours or let the kids loose on the skate park!

Mini Town | Durban

Mini Town

Just next to the Skate Store and Circus Circus Beach Café on the promenade, you’ll find Mini Town. Mini Town offers you and the family a unique view of the East Coast city, as it’s home to a range of miniature models that reflect some of the city’s most famous landmarks. With train tracks and a functional harbour model, Mini Town will have your little people enchanted!

Giba Gorge | Durban

Giba Gorge

A little drive out of central Durban will take you to Giba Gorge. It’s time to get on your bike and have some fun, as this family-friendly MTB Park has a number of MTB trails, a BMX and Super Cross track. And if you’re keen on kicking back while the kids play, there are lots of things to keep them entertained while you relax.

Botanic Gardens | Durban

Durban Botanic Gardens

Finish off your Durban vacation with a lazy day in the sun, feeding the ducks and enjoying a little time out at the Durban Botanic Gardens. The oldest surviving Botanic Garden in Africa, this Durban institution is not just beautiful to visit but educational too. With a focus on biodiversity, the Gardens maintain both indigenous and exotic plant collections. Pop into the Orchid House and take a gentle stroll through the Arboretum, before settling under the trees for a family picnic.

Enjoy your spring school holidays in sunny Durban!
