Watching the news can be downright depressing sometimes but it’s important to be clued up on current affairs. Getting the kids to stay up to date on what’s happening in the world can be a little more difficult, especially when it feels like there are only bad news stories out there. But now, thanks to a cool new take on current affairs from The Citizen newsroom, watching the news just turned cool.
Connect is a mobile-focused, digital news publication that exists to bring interesting, relevant news to the eyes and ears of young South Africans. A new subdivision of The Citizen, Connect is run by five young and funky media superheroes that work to make news relevant and relatable.
Tackling social issues and important news in a quirky yet effective way, the Connect team works to fill a current gap in South African media coverage, by providing a platform for discussion around diverse issues that affect the youth of South Africa, using a multimedia approach.
We checked out the first news broadcast, hosted by Kelly and Thando and loved how the team has crafted news stories in a fun but informative way. You can watch the very first Connect news broadcast here.
They’ll be doing regular news broadcasts, but also updating the site often with unusual approaches to current affairs that bring news to young people in a brilliant way. Check them out on Facebook and Twitter too!
