Matric Madness? Mxit can Fix It!

It’s that time of the year where parents sprout 97 new grey hairs and coffee becomes an essential family ritual, because studying for Matric final examinations is taking up all the focus. But, when it comes to revision time, even though the stress levels are skyrocketing, there is help out there! And it’s right here, on your phone.

Aside from the great reading and other education-focused apps that imbue a little fun into learning like loveWords and FunDza, Mxit’s app library is crammed with cool resources for school pupils. I took a little peek at what Mxit’s doing with their Ukufunda portal (launched earlier this year) to help Matric students ace their exams.

Accessible via the learner profile on Ukufunda, a bunch of matric revision tools and modules have been added to the service. On the homepage, when pupils log in, they’ll find a neat little link entitled “Cool stuff for Matric 2014”.

For example, the Mathematics testing tool contains six sub-modules, each including short self-testing exercises. The team at Mxit are also constantly adding new modules and subjects, including past exam papers, study tips and more. Digging a little more around Ukufunda, I found great resources for other subjects too – including Geography, Life Sciences and Accounting.

As a mom, I was pretty darn pleased to see too, that Mxit have made online counselling for stressed students easy too. They’ve always been good with this sort of thing, and I noticed that their online counselling services for helping students cope with exam-related stress are also accessible via UkuFunda. Childline operates the counselling service.

So, for all of you who are living with a Matric Exam Mad kid, I hope you’ll find these resources helpful!
