Photography is such a great hobby to have, not only because you’re able to capture life’s most important moments, but because it’s an artform too. We’ve noticed more and more kids getting involved in snapping their own pics and, with social network Instagram reportedly favoured over Facebook by teens, it’s no surprise that everyone in the family is taking up photography!
Let’s take a look at our favourite digital cameras for kids:
Rugged and ready to go, the Olympus Tough TG-850 is perfect for teens that snap away on nature walks or while out hiking. We found it on Cameraland for R4999 so it’s quite an investment for a serious hobbyist but worth it for its durability. It’s water, crush, shock, freeze, and dustproof, making it a great little point and shoot for just about every outdoor occasion.
The HP AC100 Action Cam is a little camera with a big heart. It comes with a waterproof enclosure so it’s great for taking pictures in the pool and capturing short video clips in full HD. We found it on sale at Takealot for R699 so that’s a fine birthday present right there!
I couldn’t finish this list without telling you about the LEGO Digital Camera. Yes, I’ll repeat that – the LEGO Digital Camera. You can pick it up on Amazon but I’m pretty sure I’d buy this for me, and not my kid (nobody tell her). With a built in flash, fixed focus and digital zoom, the LEGO Digital Camera is great for smaller kids and nostalgic parents! You can also add bricks to the LEGO camera, but you can’t take it apart (thankfully!)
